Whilst visiting the 2026 NAMM show in Anaheim, John and the team attended the Fender Custom Shop’s annual Custom Shop event, where all attendees can bid on exclusive instruments built specifically for the NAMM show. These instruments always feature a unique spec that you don’t see every day.
This Fender Custom Shop ’59 Stratocaster was built for NAMM 2026 by Masterbuilder Apprentice, Dylan Howell, who has spent many years working with and learning from one of the most experienced Masterbuilders around, Dale Wilson. Dylan’s attention to detail and ability really is incredible, he’s done a great job with this instrument and we’re sure it won’t take long until he earns the title of Masterbuilder himself.
This Stratocaster begins with an Alder body finished with a Faded Aged Surf Green nitrocellulose lacquer. Dylan specifically designed this finish to be especially thin, which means it will continue to age very easily. Alongside the thin nitrocellulose finish, Dylan has aged this guitar beautifully, it really does look authenticly old and has such a cool vibe.
The neck is crafted from Quartersawn Maple and feels really smooth and comfortable in your hands. It features a 60s Style Oval “C” neck shape, which measures .790” at the 1st fret, and .930” at the 12th fret. The Rosewood fingerboard is super rich in colour and looks super authentic. It features 21 Narrow Tall frets, a 9.50” radius, and a 1.650” nut width.
It’s loaded with a set of Fender Custom Shop handwound Tomatillo single coils, which feature Alnico 2 magnets and deliver the sweet sound of an older, vintage pickup. They’re really dynamic and super inspiring to play through, you’re going to love them! Another key feature Dylan specifically chose to include was heavy relic hardware, which gives this guitar a totally unique look.
If you’re looking a Fender Custom Shop with a unique story and build specification, then you should 100% check this guitar out. We don’t think this will hang around long, don’t miss out!
