As one of Fender's longest serving and most valuable employees, David Brown has vast experience in constructing the best that the Custom Shop has to offer. His Masterbuilder status is has been cemented in recent years and this '61 Strat is a prime example of why he is considered one of the top builders around.
The Relic work is exceptional here, a suitably aged nitro finish with tasteful wear to replicate a guitar that has had a well-loved journey for 60+ years. An Alder body meets a plain grain Maple neck with a high grade AAA Dark Rosewood fingerboard - a period correct wood combination made with the highest quality timbers for structural stability. A '59 Esquire C neck shape combines with 21 Jumbo frets and a 9.5" fretboard radius to provide comfortable playability which is ready for big bends and smooth vibrato. A masterful vintage-inspired Strat suitable for the modern player.
Where the guitar truly stands out from the pack is the sound. Loaded with a set of Josefina Hand Wound 59 Strat pickups, the tone of this guitar is absolutely killer! Having trained under Abigail Ybarra, Josefina Campos is a true master and the most sought-after pickup winder around.
It's always an exciting day when a new Masterbuilt arrives and all of the staff here at Peach stopped in their tracks when this was plugged in - producing true vintage Strat tone with super articulate, punchy low end and crisp highs, it's one of the best sounding Strat's we've had in for some time, and that is saying something!
