Originally released in 1962 as Gibson’s second square-shoulder acoustic after the Hummingbird, the Dove has become one of the most recognizable acoustic guitars in history. It’s been played by legends like Elvis, Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, Alex Lifeson, Frank Hannon, and many others.
Epiphone, in collaboration with Gibson Custom, is proud to present the 1963 Dove Reissue, a beautifully crafted and faithful tribute to the original Dove models from 1963.
This Epiphone 1963 Dove features a thermally aged solid spruce top alongside solid figured maple back and sides. Thanks to the all solid wood construction, this guitar resonance much stronger than comparable laminate models. It also features scalloped x-bracing, which further helps this guitars powerful voice. It’s bright, clear, and super inspiring to play.
The one-piece mahogany neck features a 25.5” scale, a thermally aged finish, and a comfortable Rounded profile. It’s topped with a bound rosewood fretboard, fitted with 20 standard frets and decorated with split parallelogram inlays made from mother of pearl. The headstock showcases the classic Gibson-style "open book" shape, with the Inspired by Gibson Custom double diamond logo etched on the back.
The Dove is known for its distinctive and iconic detailing. The body is outlined with multi-ply binding on both the top and back, adding a refined touch. Its rosewood bridge plate is shaped like a dove and inlaid with two mother-of-pearl dove figures. A compensated bone saddle, along with a bone nut and bridge pins, enhance tone and playability. Completing the look is the classic Dove pickguard, which features a beautifully inlaid mother-of-pearl dove.
To meet the needs of modern performers and recording artists, the 1963 Dove Reissue comes equipped with an L.R. Baggs Element Bronze VTC preamp and undersaddle piezo pickup system, making it ready for the stage or studio right out of the box. It also includes a Red Line–inspired hardshell case, complete with the Inspired by Gibson Custom logo on the outside, to keep your guitar protected wherever your music takes you.
