Originally crafted with rosewood, the model underwent a key change in 1947 when maple became the standard for the back and sides. Today, vintage versions of the SJ-200 remain highly prized by collectors worldwide.
Epiphone has partnered with Gibson Custom to introduce the 1957 SJ 200 Reissue, an Inspired by Gibson Custom model that captures the spirit of the original 1957 Super Jumbo. This recreation offers modern musicians a more accessible way to enjoy its timeless tone and classic design.
The Epiphone 1957 SJ-200 features a thermally aged solid sitka spruce top, alongside solid figured maple back and sides. Thanks to the all solid wood construction, these guitars vibrate more freely, producing a rich more dynamic tone. This guitar also features scalloped X-bracing, which further helps this guitar to deliver a strong, powerful sound
The neck is crafted from two-piece flame maple with a walnut stringer. The figured maple looks stunning and gives this guitar a really premium feel. Seeing a neck like this on a guitar at this price point is being rare these days, so this is awesome to see. The c-profile is super comfortable and feels great, if you like classic Gibson’s, then you’re sure to feel right at home. The bound Indian Rosewood fingerboard is dark in colour and features a 25.5” scale length, 20 frets, a 43.79mm nut width, and mother-of-pearl graduated crown inlays.
