Rosewood Back and Sides - Thermally Aged Solid Sitka Spruce Top - L.R. Baggs Element Bronze VTC Electronics

After its launch in 1937, the Gibson SJ-200 quickly earned the nickname “The King of the Flat-Tops” thanks to its exceptional sound, impressive size, powerful projection, and striking presence. The earliest SJ-200 models featured rosewood backs and sides, which were later changed to maple in 1947. Now, Epiphone has teamed up with Gibson Custom to craft an Inspired by Gibson Custom recreation of this vintage icon, making it more accessible for today’s players to enjoy.
The Epiphone Pre-War SJ-200 is packed with vintage features, including solid rosewood back and sides, a thermally aged solid spruce top, and traditional scalloped X-bracing crafted from quarter-sawn solid spruce. All of which help to deliver the SJ-200s legendary powerful tone.
The 2-piece maple neck with rosewood stringer features a round “d” profile, which feels chunky and secure in your hand. It’s perfect for playing first position chords, and works great for lead lines as well. The ebony fretboard is decorated with mother-of-pearl graduated Crown inlays and fitted with 20 standard frets. The Gibson “open book” headstock showcases a vintage Epiphone logo and a Gibson Crown inlay crafted from aged mother-of-pearl. It also features a stinger and the Inspired by Gibson Custom Double Diamond logo etched on the back.
In keeping with the needs of modern musicians, it comes equipped with an undersaddle L.R. Baggs™ Element Bronze VTC piezo pickup and active preamp, complete with soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls pre-installed. This makes it stage and studio ready right out of the included Red Line-inspired hardshell case.
