The Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt Dale Wilson 60s Strat Heavy Relic represents some of the finest craftsmanship available from Fender's most respected luthiers. Dale Wilson is widely recognised as one of the most in-demand Masterbuilders, and his instruments are sought after worldwide for their exceptional build quality, attention to detail, and superior playability. This model demonstrates exactly why his work is held in such high regard.
The guitar features an Alder body finished in Charcoal Frost Metallic over a 3-Tone Sunburst with a nitrocellulose lacquer. This thin finish not only recreates an authentic vintage aesthetic through Wilson's highly regarded relic work, but also allows the wood to resonate more freely, enhancing sustain and tonal clarity. Over time, the finish will continue to age naturally, giving the guitar even more character.
Its AAA flame maple neck, with a medium-tint nitro finish and unfinished back, delivers a smooth and responsive playing feel. Paired with a AAA rosewood fingerboard, a 9.5" radius, and 21 medium jumbo frets, the guitar provides excellent balance between modern comfort and vintage accuracy. The 60s Style Oval "C" neck profile (.830" at the 1st fret and .870" at the 12th) combined with a 1.650" bone nut ensures a versatile platform suitable for both rhythm and lead playing, making it comfortable for extended sessions without compromising on precision.
The electronics are a highlight of this instrument. It is equipped with three hand-wound Fat '60s single-coil pickups made by Josefina Campos, Fender's current Master Pickup Winder. Having trained under Abigail Ybarra, Campos has carried forward the legacy of Fender's original pickup designs, handcrafting each coil with meticulous care. These pickups deliver a rich and dynamic tonal range, offering a strong bass response, clear and articulate highs, and a vintage-correct voice that responds sensitively to playing dynamics. This makes the guitar equally capable of handling subtle, expressive passages as well as more powerful, driven tones.
Supplied in a Fender Custom Shop hardcase, this guitar is built to the highest standard, combining premium materials, expert craftsmanship, and historically accurate detail. As one of Dale Wilson's creations, it represents not just a professional-grade instrument, but also a highly collectable piece that reflects Fender's ongoing tradition of excellence.
