Every single Fender Custom Shop guitar is great, but once in a while we get one come in that really knocks us for six. This one is an absolute winner, one that John spec'd a few months back that has just arrived. We really don't think this one is going to hang around long. The quality of the relic work is superb - it's hard to believe that this isn't a Masterbuilt Tele - it is certainly up there in terms of quality.
The 2-Colour Sunburst is very cool, with some great fading to it, and it reveals the beautiful ash body too. Speaking of looks, with it's black pickguard and handwound Strat Fat 50's neck pickup, this one has definite David Gilmour vibes. His beautiful 1955 Esquire, with a neck pickup fitted by Seymour Duncan, was also finished in Sunburst; a very rare colour for a 1955 Esquire! The bridge pickup on our one is a handwound Loaded 51 Nocaster pickup. The Loaded version has some extra thick wire with extra winds; perfect for pushing into more rocking territory, but with an awesome twang when the volume is dialled back.
The neck is exactly what most people would hope for... tinted for a beautiful colour, a 52 style "U" profile - full and comfortable in the hand without getting into super-chunky Nocaster territory, with a 9.5" radius for a great balance of chord and lead work comfort.
If you're after a great Fender Tele, you'd be wise to jump on this one; it certainly stands out from the crowd.
