Collings are infamous for their expert build quality, immaculate finishes and seriously great tones. Vintage-inspired designs but with supremely well crafted playability for the modern player, it's no exaggeration to say they make some of the best guitars on the planet.
This premium, high gloss nitrocellulose Candy Apple Red finish 290 is a prime example. The finish is so vibrant and clean, it almost shimmers as you look at it from different angles. The 290 has long been one of the main staples in their electric guitar line-up, and the reason it remains so popular is because the design is seemingly simple, yet meticulously researched and perfectly made.
Its namesake comes from the scenic US 290 highway that travels through the Texas Hill Country past the Collings workshop. A solid Honduran Mahogany body and neck combine with a Rosewood fingerboard which is tastefully adorned with Grained Ivoroid dot inlays. The body is installed with two Lollar P90s (Staple in the neck, Dogear at the bridge). With just these two pickups, you can produce a stunning variety of tones. Warm cleans, dynamic responsiveness and if you want to get down and dirty with your nastiest riffs, it'll show you its mettle!
Topped off with a Bigsby tailpiece, you can achieve those iconic, smooth warbling pitch shifts and natural vibratos with ease, all while staying safely in tune.
Other key features include a 12" fretboard radius, 24 7/8" scale length, Medium frets and a 1 11/16" nut width.
An absolutely classy, masterful guitar with bags of character. This one would stand out in your home studio or on the biggest stage.
