Collings make great guitars, with over 35 years of experience; they know a thing or two about putting together a superb guitar. The Collings 470 JL is certainly one of their standout models! The success of the Collings OM1 JL combined with Julian LageÆs love of electric guitars meant a second Collings-Julian collaboration was inevitable. But following such a highly praised signature model with yet another meant leaving nothing on the table. From its organic beginnings, the process envisioned by both parties was something designed and built from the sound up.
The Collings 470 JL is the result of years-long conversations, engineering, testing, tweaking, playing, and listening. And then doing it all over again until it was right. From first sketches through plugging in the final prototypes, every aspect of this model inside and out is the result of a unique approach, technique, and style - both from the builder’s and player’s point of view - culminating in a one-of-a-kind electric guitar experience.
With a Fully hollow trestle block body design built with Solid Mahogany and a Maple Laminate top, this allows for the resonance of a hollowbody but keeping the feedback resistance associated with solid body guitars. It is well weighted and incredibly comfortable against the body. Finished in the awesome Antiqued Blonde High gloss nitrocellulose lacquer
The Honduran Mahogany neck features a custom neck profile unlike no other seen on a Collings guitar. To achieve the comfortable, accessible feel desired, a custom neck shape was created which incorporates Julian's preferences for a symmetrical design and narrower fingerboard in the upper fret range, along with a C/V hybrid profile. It also includes a 12" Radius, 24 7/8" Scale Length, Medium Nickel Frets and Graduated Pearl Dot Inlays.
Collings decided to team up with esteemed pickup maker "Ron Ellis" to offer a truly elevated experience with this signature model. Those seeking the power of a higher wound pickup with the fidelity and clarity of a true vintage single coil will not be disapointed. This set sounds incredible. Thanks to the Bigsby B3 Tailpiece you have a stable and comfortable playing platform, perfect for all those vibrato pieces.
With the success of the OM1 JL we know this new Collings 470 JL will be a fan favourite.
