Peach Guitars recently had the distinct pleasure of hosting an unboxing session with the legendary Tom Anderson in California, where John revealed four exceptional guitars destined for our store. Amongst these beauties was this Drop Top model.
A Revolutionary Design
Introduced in 1990, the Drop Top redefined the S-style guitar by incorporating a maple top that dropped to create a comfortable forearm contour. This innovative design choice, featuring a body top thickness of 3/16 of an inch, not only enhances the guitar's aesthetic appeal but also enriches its sonic character. The result is an instrument that is as visually striking as it is musically versatile.
Exceptional Build Quality
The Drop Top boasts a quilt maple top on a swamp ash back, a combination that delivers deep, resonant low-lows and sparkling highs with an open, scooped middle. The body finish in Blood Orange Burst with Black and Orange Dog Hair Back adds to the guitar's stunning visual appeal. The Dog Hair finish, a meticulous hand-applied technique, highlights the wood's pores in dramatic fashion, making each guitar truly one-of-a-kind.
Superior Playability
Tom Anderson guitars are renowned for their playability, and the Drop Top is no exception. The caramel maple neck with a Ziricote fingerboard features a 12 to 14-inch conical radius, providing a comfortable playing surface that facilitates effortless string bending. The Even-Taper +.030 neck back shape ensures a consistent feel from the nut to the 12th fret, offering a sleek and fast playing experience. Stainless steel jumbo frets further enhance playability, providing silky smooth string bends and liquid smooth vibrato.
Premium Hardware and Electronics
Equipped with chrome hardware and a vintage tremolo bridge, the Drop Top is built to withstand rigorous playing. The pickup configuration includes HF1, SF1, and HF2 pickups, offering a wide range of tonal possibilities. The HF1 neck humbucker delivers clear, throaty tones, while the HF2 bridge humbucker provides muscular mids with lush highlights. The SF1 single-coil in the middle position is hum-canceling and richer than traditional vintage coils. The 5-way switching system, along with a splitter, allows for endless tonal variations, from classic single-coil spank to thick humbucker growl.
Buzz Feiten Tuning System
Another great feature of the Drop Top is the inclusion of the Buzz Feiten Tuning System. This ensures unparalleled tuning stability and accuracy, making chords sound more harmonious and enhancing the overall musical experience.
