When the SG debuted back in '61 it was considered pretty radical for the time, with its thin body and no nonsense styling, it clearly focussed on raw power and playability. Quickly becoming a fan favourite with players like Pete Townshend, the SG found itself a permanent member of the Gibson roster.
Usually constructed using Mahogany, this 1964 version features a Korina body and neck, as part of Gibson Custom's Limited Edition Collection. It retains the classic blueprint of an SG but the use of Korina and the Antique Natural finish give it an elegant twist.
Finished in VOS nitrocellulose finish, this gently aged patina highlights the grain exceptionally well, as well as authentically recreating the look of a guitar that was born in '64 but seen very little play time throughout its lifetime.
With a duo of Gibson Alnico III unpotted CustomBuckers it offers bite and a super responsive, well-rounded tone. Perfect for players looking for the authentic Gibson PAF tone, these pickups offer clarity, definition and punch. Everything you would want from an SG. Equipped with a Maestro Vibrola, you get smooth vibrato and a classic vintage Gibson aesthetic.
Complete with hardcase and certificate of authenticity, this guitar is one for collectors and players alike!
