Founded in Lewiston, Maine, Bourgeois Guitars carries forward over fifty years of craftsmanship and innovation. Under the guidance of master luthier Dana Bourgeois, the workshop combines traditional techniques with modern precision to produce instruments of remarkable tone and beauty. Each hand-voiced guitar is built with a deep respect for heritage, designed to inspire players today and for generations to come.
This Bourgeois Custom OM spec means premium, hand-selected tonewoods and Bourgeois renowned tap-tuned, hand-voiced-tops resulting in outstanding responsiveness and tonal complexity. Every detail, from construction to finish, reflects a deep commitment to traditional craftsmanship with modern precision. To this day, Dana and Master Luthier James Witkus meticulously oversee the top and back voicing of every guitar, approving the selection of all tonewoods-showcasing skills that have become legendary in the world of acoustic guitar building.
This Bourgeois Custom OM boasts a hand-selected, solid Adirondack Spruce top and the highest available grade of East Indian Rosewood for the solid back & sides, finished with a stunning abalone rosette.
John custom spec'd this guitar to offer something extra special for our customers. He added a LR Baggs HiFi pickup so that the guitar could easily be used both live and for recording scenarios. The LR Baggs HiFi is a non-invasive pickup design that pairs dual bridge plate sensors with high-fidelity electronics, providing exceptional balance, definition, and dynamics. This system is known for producing an incredibly natural sound that accurately mirrors the guitar's true voice.
As well as being an instrument built for players who want a professional, reliable, and high-quality guitar that sounds incredible in any scenario, John wanted to add an extra touch of class, choosing 41-style abalone purfling for the top; a tip of the hat to the great Martin guitars that inspired this one.
The Honduran Mahogany neck provides a super comfortable playing surface, and a lovely piece of ebony for the fingerboard, finished with abalone slotted square & diamond inlays. This neck profile is perfect for longer playing sessions and for playing without getting fatigued.
Finished in gloss, which compared to satin acts as a harder and more durable barrier. Gloss also provides better protection against dings, scratches, and most importantly, fluctuations in humidity.
The Bourgeois Custom OM uses signature X-bracing, this design scallops the bass-side braces while shaping the treble side, enhancing bass-to-treble balance and dynamic range. The result is a clear, natural voice that responds beautifully to every playing style.
We received three stunning Bourgeois guitars in recently. All of them were incredible in different ways. This one clearly shone as the best one for the fingerstyle player - the other two being dreadnoughts. The midrange was really special, being full and woody. However, the guitar certainly didn't lack bass and is still incredibly versatile. After all, not many people know more about the OM body shape than Dana. These guitars truly are amongst the best if not the best boutique acoustics on the market. Get Golden Era tone with modern build-quality. We can't recommend these enough!
