The PRS Dead Spec Silver Sky was designed for John Mayers prominent work on Dead & Companys final tour. A fitting tribute to the legendary Jerry Garcias "Alligator" tones, this turbo-charged Silver Sky is a modded powerhouse, a Silver Sky on steroids!
With an unique Swamp Ash body, it offers a traditional and supremely comfortable playing experience. It is tonally very different to any other Silver Sky and features an enhanced natural resonance! The Moc Sand satin nitro finish is incredibly thin and sinks into the ash wood grain, creating an amazing 3-dimensional effect. Well balanced and featuring the signature PRS lower horn scoop, it delivers great access right up the neck.
The 22 fret bolt on Maple neck has a 25.5" scale length, 7.25" radius and features PRS medium frets. With a dark Rosewood fingerboard, which has small bird inlays, it offers a classic feel. As usual, the classic PRS headstock has been reversed on the Silver Sky to give some extra clearance on the underside of the nut, however you will now also find a super helpful string retainer bar which adds to the resonance and super bright response
The trio of single coils have been designed to provide the same vintage tone we all crave but also utilise everything PRS have learnt about pickup design and construction. A blend of '63 and '64 pickups, they have a musical high end and a higher signal to noise ratio. These precision engineered single coils are everything you would expect a tone junkie like Mayer to dig.
The defining feature of the Dead Spec Silver Sky has to be the inclusion of Jerry Garcias legendary Alembic Blaster preamp. This preamp can be used as a straight boost but has an internal pot that allows players to add between 3 - 14 dB of gain to the guitar when turned on. This not only gives the Dead Spec Silver Sky added punch while maintaining crisp note separation, but it compensates for the capacitance that comes with long stage cables as well. The circuit is bypassed when in the off position.
To complete this powerhouse guitar there is a redesigned, surface-mounted bridge which is essentially a hardtail adaptation of the PRS patented tremolo. This gives that real vintage response and more organic sound.
