PRS John Mayer Silver Sky Defender Limited Edition - Willow Green

Paul Reed Smith and John Mayer have teamed up with Defender to honour four classic colours of the iconic Land Rover model, of which John is a huge fan. Limited to 500 units per colour worldwide, this idea for this collaboration stemmed from Mayer's own Defender in Arles Blue which he has owned for almost 20 years and is one of his most loved cars. Combining his two biggest passions, this limited edition range of USA-made Silver Sky's are inspired by classic Defender colours. Guitars have a storied history of sharing colourways with cars, and as a long-time lover and collector of Defender's, John and PRS knew it would be an incredible project to undertake.

This one is finished in the elegant Willow Green, a nod to the Defender's countryside beginnings and emblematic of its timeless reputation, perfectly fitting for the Silver Sky's enduring appeal.

All the classic Silver Sky specs fans know and love are maintained on this limited edition model. Back in 2018, both Paul Reed Smith and John Mayer spent countless months developing this model to include the DNA of their favourite S-style guitars, while maintaining the instantly recognisable PRS magic. Since the original launch back, the Silver Sky has changed very little, which is a testament to how great this design really is.

With an Alder body, it offers a traditional and supremely comfortable playing experience. Well balanced and featuring the signature PRS lower horn scoop, it delivers great access right up the neck. The body design was based around the PRS DC3 and adjusted and tweaked until it offered the shape that both Paul and John were happy with. 

The 22 fret bolt on Maple neck has a 25.5" scale length, 7.25" radius and features PRS medium frets, these frets are slightly larger than vintage frets but a touch smaller than the standard PRS frets. With an East Indian Rosewood fingerboard, which has small bird inlays, it offers a classic feel. The classic PRS headstock has been reversed on the Silver Sky to give some extra clearance on the underside of the nut. This limited edition model also features a matching painted headstock.

The trio of 635JM single coils have been designed to provide the same vintage tone we all crave but also utilise everything PRS have learnt about pickup design and construction. A blend of '63 and '64 pickups, they have a really musical high end and a higher signal to noise ratio. These precision engineered single coils are everything you would expect a tone junkie like Mayer to dig.

To complete this powerhouse guitar there is a redesigned Gen III bridge, this tremolo is set up differently to other PRS guitars in that because the back plate sits flush to the body, you can only drop in pitch. This gives that real vintage response and more organic sound.

This model also features a limited edition Land Rover Defender backplate which finishes the look of this special release perfectly.

To top things off, it also comes with a limited edition premium moulded case featuring Defender badge. You can rest easy knowing your Silver Sky is kept safe in style.
