New Release | Soldano SLO-30 Combo!
There are some amps that for one reason or another become icons, legendary beacons that represent the very best of design and the sounds that they helped create. I’m talking about the 5150, Fender Princeton, Marshall JCM800 and the Dumble Overdrive Special, the absolute pinnacle of amp design and tonal manipulation.
And one amp that we haven’t mentioned but that is equally as deserving of this kingly status is the Soldano SLO-100, the flagship in the Soldano range. Released back in 1979, the SLO-100 (Super Lead Overdrive) was soon making waves with the guitar playing elite. Orders were flooding in and it wasn’t long before Eric Claption, Mark Knopfler, Gary Moore and Steve Vai were seen harnessing the tonal excellence of LA’s latest amp messiah.
Eddie Van Halen got in on the act too, replacing his trusty Marshall 1959 for the album, “For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge”. In fact, the previously mentioned 5150, EVH’s signature amp, was heavily inspired and modelled on the SLO-100.
In 2018 Mike Soldano announced his retirement, but was soon tempted out of it to remain as a designer under the new ownership of Boutique Amp Distribution. Together, they released a revamped and revised SLO-100 and a fantastic lower wattage variant, the SLO-30. This 30 watt powerhouse captures the true magic of its more powerful older sibling but at a more manageable power!
And now in 2023, the latest addition to this legendary family comes in the form of the Soldano SLO-30 Combo, possibly the most versatile option of the lot! Hand-wired in the USA, this glorious valve combo is the epitome of sonic excellence. Whether it’s the iconic high-gain tones of the late 80’s or the precision cleans that Clapton and Knopfler thrive on, the SLO-30 Combo can certainly deliver! Loaded with a Celestion G12H-150 Redback speaker, the SLO-30 utilises the same “Normal’ and “Overdrive” channels as the head version and delivers a myriad of lush tones thanks to the Bright and Crunch switches.
With independent Preamp and Master controls, you have complete command over your sound at any volume. Tailor your tone further with the global 3-band EQ, Presence, and Depth controls, shaping the overall voice of the amplifier to suit your unique style.
The SLO-30 also features an improved tube-buffered FX loop, ensuring pristine integration with your effects. The FX level control allows you to fine-tune the performance of your effects, unleashing their full potential. The variable Slave output adds further functionality, enabling direct recording, use with impulse responses (IRs), and the ability to combine multiple amplifiers for a colossal sonic experience.
Furthermore, the onboard impedance selector enables you to connect your choice of 4, 8, or 16-ohm speaker cabinets, accommodating various setups with ease. With five 12AX7 preamp tubes and two 5881 / 6L6 power tubes, the SLO-30 delivers unmatched power and warmth, elevating your sound to new heights.
