The Music Man Jason Richardson signature Cutlass is a real standout high performance instrument. It fuses modern playability with classic tonewoods for an instrument that appeals to an extremely wide range of players. This stunning example finished in “Water Temple” is a real favourite of ours, the colour looks great against the Buckeye Burl top and gives each guitar its own unique visual identity.
The body itself is a crafted from Alder, and features a truly stunning Buckeye Burl top. Each top is personally checked and approved by the Music Man team when they receive a delivery from their supplier, ensuring only the finest pieces are used to make a Music Man instrument. The top itself is stained with a deep “Water Temple” blue colour, which really highlights the awesome figuring within the Buckeye Burl. The finish itself is high gloss poly, which does a great job at protecting the body. As the Cutlass is a double cutaway design, this guitar gives you great access to all 24 frets, this was a really important part of the design process.
This guitars neck is crafted from Figured Maple which has been roasted for extra stability. The roasting process also helps to give the neck a unique darker colour, which really compliments the blue body. It features a Flat/Thin C neck shape, which feels great in your hands, it offers fast, modern playability with exceptional comfort. The back of the neck also features Music Man’s gunstock oil and hand-rubbed wax finish, which feels smooth and broken in straight out of the case. The Ebony fingerboard is dark in colour and features a 25.5” scale length, 24 stainless steel frets, 15” radius, 1.6875” nut width, and white dot inlays.
The pickups in the guitar are the Jason Richardson HT humbuckers. These ceramic-magnet pickups are designed to sound killer with high-gain, deliver massive output, extended dynamic range and articulate note definition. They produce a powerful low-end response while retaining clarity at lower volumes, and the push/push tapped mode offers a richer, fuller, and more authentic single-coil tone than conventional coil-split designs, thanks to Music Man's clever HT technology.
The onboard Music Man active preamp adds even more versatility. A push/push volume knob activates a factory-set 12 dB boost, adjustable up to 20 dB via an internal trim pot, which is perfect as a solo-boost or when you want to push your amp or amp-sim for extra saturation.
The hardware is of the highest quality, as is to be expected on an instrument of this quality. The Music Man floating trem works beautifully, staying in tune great without the hassle of locking system - especially as the guitar also uses Schaller locking tuners.
