When the SG debuted back in '61 it was considered pretty radical for the time, with its thin body and no nonsense styling, it clearly focussed on raw power and playability. Quickly becoming a fan favourite with players like Pete Townshend, the SG found itself a permanent member of the Gibson roster. With the 2016 SG Standard P-90, Gibson wanted to capture the same level of excitement as back in '61.
With the classic all Mahogany, super slim design, the SG is the same tone machine we all know and love. The Thin Mahogany neck is topped with a lush Rosewood fingerboard to complete the tonewood dream team. Unlike normal all Mahogany guitars, the SG is super light thanks to its thinline profile and simplistic design. With a return to the original 1 11/16" neck width you get more space to play without changing the string spacing.
With a pair of Gibson P-90s it offers more bite, a sweeter single coil tone and a more versatile overall sound. Perfect for players that want to have greater control over their tone, the Gibson P-90s are a great touch to this classic SG design.
