Paul Waller is known across the globe as one of Fenders highly revered Masterbuilders, a select group of the worlds most esteemed luthiers. With this Godly status, any guitar with his name attached generates a huge amount of interest, and rightly so! His builds are played by some of the worlds elite players including Ronnie Wood, Keith Richards, Buddy Guy, Nile Rodgers and possibly most famously Troy Van Leeuwen for who he built a twin neck Jazzmaster.
The Fender Custom Shop Paul Waller - Bob Bain "Son of The Gunn" Tele is a great example of the legendary prowess of the Masterbuilders.
Bob Bain was the original go-to guy for session work back in the 40s and 50s, his credits included Mancini's 'Peter Gunn,' TV's 'Batman' theme and Lalo Shrifrin's 'Mission Impossible' theme, alongside these iconic tunes he also played on recorded with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Nat Cole, Ray Charles, Quincy Jones and Dean Martin. His guitar of choice for over 1000 sessions was his trusty '53 Tele, equipped with a Bigsby vibrato unit and a humbucking neck pickup, it offered the kind of delicious versatility that an acclaimed session player would need.
With a two-piece off centre select Ash body this guitar is super resonant and thanks to its meticulously applied custom relic lacquer finish, this guitar has been painstakingly matched to replicate the original. The level of attention to detail that has been applied to this guitar is simply out of this world!
The neck is crafted from 1 piece of Maple and features a soft V profile, it's real comfortable and with a 7.25" radius and 21 vintage style frets it's smooth and at home playing slick runs and crisp chords right up the neck.
Loaded with a Seymour Duncan '59 humbucker at the neck and a handwound '51 Nocaster single coil at the bridge you get a cracking variation of tones. From the clean sparkle to a raunchy growl, this guitar really is a session players dream. The Bigsby B16 vibrato delivers flawless tremolo action and with its super response and accurate return to pitch it's a great way to add some shimmer and texture to your sound.
With only 30 units available this is a guitar for collectors and players alike, housed in a Deluxe hardshell case with certificate of authenticity it's a fitting tribute to a real unsung hero of guitar.
