Unlike most overdrives with fixed frequency responses, the Design-A-Drive empowers you with a pair of unique tone-shaping controls, namely 'Width' and 'Edge'. David Greeves, the founder of Great Eastern FX Co., explains the motivation behind this innovation, "We wanted to create a pedal that would let you tweak the parts of the circuit that really make a difference so you can make these decisions for yourself. At the same time, we wanted to condense these adjustments down into as few controls as possible so that the pedal could stay really simple and easy to use."
The 'Edge' knob takes control of the top end of the frequency spectrum, allowing you to adjust two separate filters for a tailored treble roll-off and a more intense cut in the high presence region. Simultaneously, it subtly influences the aggressiveness of the circuit's hard-clipping diodes, offering precise control over bite, grit, and presence. Complementing this, the 'Width' control, ranging from 'Thin' to 'Fat', reshapes the mid-range response, a crucial factor in harmonising your guitar, amp, and OD pedal.
