First introduced in 1942 during the "Banner" era to replace the earlier L-OO, the LG-2 was released alongside other iconic models such as the J-45 and Southern Jumbo and soon became a hugely popular smaller bodied guitar thanks to it's big projection and impeccably balanced tone.
This Gibson LG-2 50s Original is a great way to experience beautiful vintage Gibson tone in a small bodied package. These guitars are all hand built in Bozeman, Montana, in Gibson's dedicated acoustic factory. Their team is highly skilled and dedicated to making the best instruments possible, which enables you the player to buy with confidence and focus on the fun part, actually playing guitar!
This Gibson LG-2 50s Original features a solid Sitka Spruce top alongside solid Mahogany back and sides. This tonewood combination, in conjunction with the scalloped X-bracing, delivers a powerful tone that's full of rich warmth and punchy mid-range focus. The Spruce top provides more brightness than some of the war-era LG-2 models which were produced with Mahogany tops. This makes it ideal for singer-songwriters, recording in the studio or performing a variety of styles live.
The Mahogany neck features a Historic V profile which joins at the body with a compound dovetail neck join using hot hide glue. This brings period correct building techniques that reproduce the unmistakeable tone of a true vintage Gibson acoustic. The Rosewood fingerboard is dark in colour and feels super smooth under your fingers. It features 20 standard frets, a 12" radius, a 24.75" scale length, a 43.82mm wide Bone nut, and classic Mother-of-Pearl dot inlays.
One of the most important features of this guitar is the LR Baggs HiFi DNA pickup, which LR Baggs designed in close collaboration with the Gibson Montana team. This pickup is exclusive to Gibson guitars and is designed to deliver an amplified version of the guitar's natural voice without drastically altering or affecting the guitar's tone. This active system uses two lightweight sensors mounted on the internal bridge plate. The sensors are matched with optimised individual preamps to deliver a full-bodied amplified acoustic tone that lets the guitar's character and personality come through. The system also includes volume and tone controls, which are mounted in the soundhole, so you can quickly adjust your tone if needed.
Other key features of this guitar include Grover tuners with cream buttons, a sloped rectangle bridge crafted from Rosewood with Bone saddle and TUSQ bridge pins. It comes with a high-quality Gibson-branded hardshell case. If you've ever wanted to own a J-45, this is a great place to start!
