A very special Limited Edition guitar to mark a very special occasion. 100 years of Gibson Flat-Tops!
Even for one of the most prestigious guitar brands in history, 100 years of success is a long time. Gibson's range of Flat-Tops have stood the test of time with aplomb, inspiring countless guitar legends on their way and continuing to do so. As part of this celebration, this model is part of a commemorative run of 5 iconic acoustic models, each limited to just 100 guitars. Handmade in Bozeman, Montana, this Dove is something truly magnificent - honouring what makes the original model so legendary, whilst adding enough flare and charm to make it a rare stand-out piece for collectors and players alike.
This Anniversary addition takes a sublime AA Figured Maple back and sides and pairs it with a Bear Claw Sitka Spruce top. This retains the unmistakeable Dove tone but gives it a unique visual perspective, as each piece of Bear Claw has its own grain pattern and the Figured Maple further amps up the level of prestige. To help this stand out even further, the top is framed beautifully with multi-ply binding which is accentuated with Abalone, as well as an Abalone soundhole rosette. This classy upgrade is taken to the max with the Cremona Burst gloss nitro finish, which is reminiscent of a golden-hued Sunburst, it really brings out the beauty of the grain and is the perfect finish for this celebratory model.
The Mahogany neck with a comfortable Rounded neck shape is topped with a bound Rosewood fretboard, which carries 20 frets with classic Mother of Pearl split parallelogram inlays. A singly-ply bound headstock is adorned with a vintage Mother of Pearl 'The Gibson' logo, which is another tasteful nod to its historical significance. Gold-plated Grover tuners not only keep the tuning stable but match the colour of the Cremona Burst superbly.
The Dove pickguard features the classic design which includes the Mother of Pearl Dove and flower art stylings. A Rosewood Dove bridge carries on this theme with two Mother of Pearl Dove inlays which hold a Bone saddle and TUSQ bridge pins. These are matched with a Bone nut at the other end which is not only a nod to the early flat-top designs but retains optimum durability as well as providing supreme, vintage Gibson tone.
Discreetly installed with a LR Baggs VTC pickup system, this includes a piezo under saddle element and active preamp, easily adjustable to your tastes via the controls tucked away in the soundhole. It's a stage-ready guitar which is perfect for the modern player, but retains its majestic vintage-inspired aesthetics.
The Dove has been one of the most influential acoustic guitars ever over the last 60+ years. Gibson's second ever square shoulder dreadnought (behind the Hummingbird) it has been the guitar of choice for many guitar heroes, such as Tom Petty, Elvis, Alex Lifeson, John Mellencamp, Frank Hannon and more! It sounds incredible for big chord strumming, flat-picking and all your country, blues and Americana stylings but it also sounds fantastic when it comes to more delicate fingerstyle patterns, producing a rich and dynamic response to solo playing as well as a full, open sound for rhythm styles.
