A new interpretation of the iconic SJ-200 model as part of Gibson's Artisan Series, this model elevates this legendary guitar with pleasing visual tweaks and ultra premium tonewoods.
Handmade in Bozeman, Montana, this SJ-200 is something truly magnificent - honouring what makes the original model so legendary, whilst adding enough flare and charm to make it a rare stand-out piece for collectors and players alike.
This edition addition takes a sublime two-piece Koa back and sides and pairs it with a high-grade AAA Sitka Spruce top. This retains the unmistakeable SJ-200 tone but gives it a unique visual perspective, as each piece of Koa has its own desirable grain pattern and amps up the level of prestige. Koa is one of the most sought-after tonewoods not only due to it's striking aesthetic appeal, but also because of it's articulate tone that opens up beautifully the more you play it over time. To help this stand out even further, the top is framed beautifully with multi-ply binding and finished in a classy Honey Burst finish for a warm, vintage-inspired look.
The Mahogany neck with a comfortable Rounded neck shape is topped with a bound Rosewood fretboard, which carries 20 frets and Abalone graduated crown inlays. The headstock is adorned with a classic Gibson logo and crown, also rendered in Abalone. Gold-plated Grover tuners and TUSQ not only keep the tuning stable but match the colour of the Honey Burst superbly.
The SJ-200 tortoiseshell pickguard features the classic floral artwork design but this version includes a gold and silver-foil stamp which provides a gorgeous shimmering iridescent quality which is complimented with Abalone dots. A Rosewood two-bar moustache bridge keeps things prestigious with two Abalone bar inlays which hold a TUSQ saddle and bridge pins. These are matched with a TUSQ nut at the other end which retains optimum durability as well as providing supreme, quality Gibson tone.
Discreetly installed with a LR Baggs VTC pickup system, this includes a piezo under saddle element and active preamp, easily adjustable to your tastes via the controls tucked away in the soundhole. It's a stage-ready guitar which is perfect for the modern player, but retains its majestic vintage-inspired aesthetics.
The SJ-200 has been one of the most influential acoustic guitars ever. First introduced in 1937 as the Super Jumbo, it's regarded by many as the King of the Flat-Tops. It's a big bodied guitar with massive projection and a beautifully rich and responsive tone. Used by legendary players such as Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Emmylou Harris, Elvis, Jimmy Page and many more.
