When Joe Walsh first joined the James Gang in 1968, he turned heads with a unique tone and playing style that would both become hallmarks of his long and accomplished career. Over three decades of critical and commercial success as a solo artist, member of the Eagles, and continually evolving artist, Joe is a rare and admirable member of the Rock and Roll elite. Through these many years, Joe has held a very special relationship with Gibson, one that started with an original 1960 Les Paul.
Working closely with Joe, the guitar's current owner and the guitar itself, Gibson Custom is very pleased to be offering a beautiful replica of, not only a rare original Gibson 'Burst, but the very same companion to some of Joe's most memorable recordings and performances.
Through detailed analysis of the original guitar, Gibson's tea of the World's finest craftspeople have recreated a limited run of this very special guitar; a 1960 Les Paul, with tangerine burst finish and the most accurate set of Historic appointments in Gibson Custom's 20 year quest to recreate Gibson's most treasured solid body guitar from the 1950's era.
Among the most notable features of the Joe Walsh 1960 Les Paul is its unique neck profile to match the original, hand aging (by Tom Murphy) to capture the guitar's wear throughout the lifetime, and two custom wound Custombuckers that capture the tone of the original with incredible accuracy.
As a member of the 2013 class of Historic instruments, the Joe Walsh 1960 Les Paul also features Gibson Custom's 20th Anniversary specification: Aniline dye back and sides, historically accurate truss rod assembly with no tubing, hot hide glue neck joint, historically accurate binding colour, and 1 piece Rosewood fingerboard.
