The God's of Rock have spoken, and the legendary Medallion V makes its return. Built to the exact specs of the original model that inspired a generation of hard-rock legends, this two-piece Mahogany body axe, which is likened with Michael Schenker's iconic tone, is an absolutely killer, no nonsense rock beast!
The 1971 Flying V Medallion is constructed with a slightly thinner body, measuring at a thickness of 1.375". The Korina body models from '58 measured at a thicker 1.5". This means a lighter weight and a super comfortable playing experience, all while retaining the best possible tone.
With a three-piece Mahogany neck carved to an Authentic 1971 Flying V shape, it sits in your hand with ease and provides a cushy, fast feeling playing experience all across the fretboard. A period accurate volute makes for optimum structural stability and the Rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets add to the smooth feel, making for accurate bending and vibrato.
One stand-out feature in keeping with the original design is the 1.5" gold medallion mounted on the wing of the body. Each one contains the Gibson logo as well as 'Limited Edition Model' text which is individually numbered for each guitar!
With regards to the electronics, we have a pair of authentic T-Top humbuckers with Alnico 5 magnets which produce an articulate, powerful output that the original guitars were known for - the pickups are unpotted and hand wired to independent volume controls with a single master tone control, just as it would have been in '71.
Other key specs include a gloss nitrocellulose finish, Long neck tenon, Corian nut, Dot fretboard inlays, 12" radius, 24.75" scale length, ABR-1 Tun-o-matic Bridge, chrome hardware, Kluson Deluxe tuners and Black Witch Hat control knobs.
Widely regarded as one of the most sought after vintage Gibson guitars out there, the 1971 Flying V Medallion was limited to only around 350 upon its initial release, its rarity is all part of the enduring allure. The guitar was originally produced to commemorate the 1972 Olympics, with each Medallion V featuring a numbered gold coin. Among Gibson's first ever Limited Edition releases, this is the first time this exact version has been reissued. A fresh opportunity to own this legendary model!
