The X3 is a sophisticated overdrive unit that combines soft and hard clipping in five gain stages to produce a harmonically rich and dynamic overdrive. At minimum gain it produces a warm clean perched on the edge of breakup, great for bluesy tones or for using as a boost into valve amp. Increase the gain and the X3 starts to crunch up, capturing the feel and response of an over-driven valve amplifier.
With super simple controls the X3 really allows you to craft and sculpt your tone to taste. Utilise the "Drive" control to dial in the desired amount of distortion. Simultaneously increases the gain in two stages of the circuit. The two position buffer switch allows you to select between a "Normal" mode, and an "Interactive" mode. In the interactive mode when the guitar is connected directly to the pedal input, tone will brighten as the guitar volume is rolled back, eliminating muddy-ness as the tone gets cleaner. If the guitar is not connected directly to the pedal then this position offers an alternative, brighter voicing.
Further controls include "Body" and "Bite" which alters the pedals frequency range and the two position "Pre-Shape" switch which engages a filter before the last gain stage, expanding the tonal range of the pedal.
