The Spiritone is the result of an intensive collaboration to capture the essence of the overdrive tones Char has championed throughout his career. Vemuram's development began with a deep dive into his personal Klon Centaur, cross-referenced against their own collection of "prime" units to identify the ultimate sonic benchmark.
Beyond the Klon, they focused on the iconic boost and gain characteristics of the Roland CE-1 and Watkins Copicat, gear that defined Char's signature sound. By integrating these specific nuances with a versatile medium-gain drive, and through rigorous real-world testing on stage, they've created a pedal that evolves these classic foundations into something entirely new.
During a year of prototyping, two specific circuits emerged as Char's favourites. While their architectures were similar, subtle differences in component tuning created two distinct sonic personalities. Rather than choosing between them, Vemuram integrated both into a single unit:
- Channel A: Offers a warm, vintage tone with a responsive, organic feel.
- Channel B (Bright): Delivers a punchier, more aggressive attack with increased power and clarity.
The Spiritone features independent Level controls for each voicing, allowing players to toggle seamlessly between these two distinct characters via the footswitch.
To ensure the Spiritone integrates perfectly with any rig or venue, Vemuram have included specialised controls for fine-tuning:
- SAT (Saturation) Trimmer: Mimics the rich, harmonic saturation of power valves being pushed to their limit.
- Buffer Toggle: An ON/OFF switch for the input buffer circuit, allowing you to tailor the pedal's impedance to your specific signal chain.
The Spiritone is built to be a centrepiece of your pedalboard. They utilise high-grade, custom-ordered components, including specialised footswitches, jacks, and capacitors, alongside rare N.O.S. (New Old Stock) parts. The aesthetic is as refined as the sound, featuring custom Ash White Bakelite knobs designed to provide a sense of "pride in ownership" for every player.
