We had to custom order this beautiful guitar after we saw Christopher Cross with his gorgeous new Anderson Classic. We went for the same woods, neck shape, pickups; and of course, the same stunning Metallic Ice Purple finish. It looks absolutely fantastic, especially with the matching headstock.
The Classic is the Tom Anderson to go for if you want an S-style guitar that is just dripping in class - both in terms of build and looks. It's incredibly light, coming in at just 7lbs, thanks to the resonant Alder body, which is the perfect choice for a guitar of this style.
Again, staying with the Christopher Cross spec, we went for the Even-Taper +.030 neck shape. This is a classic Anderson neck - slim and fast, but with a tiny bit of extra depth added to feel like the kind of necks most of us gravitate towards; not too thin and certainly not too thick. As with all Anderson guitars, the neck has their 12 to 14 inch radius, subtly changing from the nut to the end of the fingerboard. This allows for a low setup but with bends not choking out.
The pickups in this are Anderson's revered VA pickups. These offer beautiful single coil tones that are everything you would hope for in a vintage S-style guitar; full but not cloudy, articulate but not harsh. Like everything Anderson do, the result is pretty much perfection. The bridge pickup is the VA 7+, which has a slightly higher output than the standard VA 7, to squeeze just a little extra bite and grit out of your amp.
If you've never played an Anderson guitar before, you will be amazed at how slinky it feels. The Stainless Steel Medium-Jumbo frets feel so slick and satisfying - you really have to try it for yourself. Plus, the guitar sounds great for chording and octaves all over the neck, thanks to the Buzz Feiten tuning system doing away with intonation issues. This is a guitar of the highest quality, for those who want an S-style guitar of superior design and build quality.
