The Tom Anderson Drop Top Hollow stands out as a pioneering instrument in the world of "S" style guitars. Introduced in 1990, the Drop Top was the first guitar to feature a maple top "dropped" to create a comfortable forearm contour. This design innovation not only enhances the guitar's aesthetics but also enriches its sonic character.
Exquisite Tonewoods and Finishes
The hollow part of the name refers to the fact that the body is chambered and therefore very light with rich and plentiful overtones. This Drop Top Hollow is crafted from a quilt maple top on an alder back. This combination produces a vintage tone characterised by a thicker midrange and a full, clear articulation. The maple top adds sweet, soft highs, while the alder back delivers a familiar, vintage tone. The guitar is finished in a stunning Natural Mocha with binding and a black back, all protected by a beautiful high gloss finish.
Playability and Precision
The neck of the Drop Top Hollow is made from maple with a rosewood fingerboard, featuring a 12 to 14-inch conical radius that facilitates effortless playability and smooth string bending. The 1 11/16" nut width and Even-Taper +.030 neck profile provides a sleek, fast feel, maintaining a consistent depth from the nut to the 12th fret. The guitar is equipped with stainless steel jumbo frets, known for their silky smooth playability and durability, enhancing every aspect of the player's technique and touch.

The Drop Top Hollow is fitted with a H2 and dual SC1 pickups, delivering a range of tonal possibilities from vintage single-coil clarity to humbucker-driven power. The SC Series pickups are hum-cancelling and produce a rich, vintage-level single-coil sound with soft, lush highs. The H2, part of the H Series, offers medium hot output with balanced mid power, providing clarity and thump. The 5-way switching system, combined with a Splitter switch, allows for endless tonal flexibility.
