The Suhr Thornicus is a powerful dual-channel fuzz pedal designed in collaboration with long standing Suhr signature artist, Ian Thornley. It features independent Fuzz and Octave Fuzz sides, with each side also having its own dedicated controls allowing for great flexibility.
Whilst working on this Pedal with Kevin Suhr, Thornley explained that Fuzz has always been an effect which caught his attention, even right from the very beginning of his guitar journey. Over the years, Thornley has used various different fuzz pedals, but has always had a real love for the Suhr Rufus and Rufus Reloaded thanks to their great sound and versatility.
As the name suggests, this dual-channel fuzz pedal features two independent channels, giving it a huge amount of versatility. Both the standard fuzz and octave fuzz channels use simple, user-friendly controls including Sustain, Level, Tone, and Mids, making it easy to dial in your sound. The Tone control shapes the overall voice of each channel, letting you move from smooth, rounded fuzz tones to cutting, aggressive textures with ease.
The right-hand side octave fuzz channel captures the raw, blooming fuzz tones that Thornley has a real passion for. Thornley describes the feel as super dynamic and responsive, meaning that the way you attack the strings with your pick or fingers will have a great effect on the tonal response from the pedal. The Thornicus also integrates seamlessly with MIDI, allowing you to quickly and easily switch channel.
If you’re looking for a fuzz pedal that’s super fun and inspiring to play through, then you should 100% check these out!
