The Sterling Mariposa is a professional-grade electric guitar developed in collaboration with Omar Rodríguez-López, guitarist of Mars Volta and At the Drive-In. Its distinctive offset body is crafted from Nyatoh, providing a balanced tone with strong midrange response. The guitar features a 25.5" scale length and a rosewood fingerboard with a 12" radius, offering a comfortable playing surface for both complex chord work and fast lead lines. With 22 medium-high frets and white pearloid block inlays, the Mariposa delivers precise intonation and clear visual markers for accurate navigation across the fretboard.
The Mariposa is equipped with two custom humbucking pickups, each with its own dedicated volume control. This configuration allows for independent adjustment of tone and output, providing a wide range of sonic possibilities, from warm, full-bodied rhythms to cutting, high-gain leads. A 3-way pickup selector adds further versatility, enabling quick tonal changes during performances. The vintage-style tremolo bridge enhances expressive playing techniques while maintaining stability for both subtle vibrato and aggressive dive-bombs.
Playability and tuning stability are key features of the Mariposa. Its roasted maple neck offers smooth action and increased durability, while the five-bolt neck attachment ensures a secure fit to the body. Locking tuners keep the guitar in tune under heavy use and reduce the need for frequent adjustments. Overall, the Sterling Mariposa combines professional design, versatile electronics, and high-quality construction to deliver a reliable instrument suitable for a wide range of musical styles.
