The longstanding creative partnership between Carlos Santana and Paul Reed Smith has greatly influenced the destiny of PRS Guitars. For years, PRS have been honouring this pivotal alliance by offering variations of his signature model instrument. The Santana Retro is a newest addition to the PRS family, paying homage to the early "Pre-Factory" guitars that Paul built for Carlos in the early 1980's. This guitar reintroduces several unique design elements, including a deeper body carve, original style heel, and the original headstock shape and nut placement, creating a classic feel that any guitar enthusiast will appreciate.
The PRS Santana Retro is a culmination of both history and modern manufacturing, making it a highly musical guitar that is good enough for the man himself. The guitar's body is made with a solid construction, a maple top wood, and a mahogany back wood, while the top carve is violin-shaped, adding an elegant touch to the guitar. The neck of the guitar is made from mahogany, with a one-piece construction and a Santana Retro profile. The fretboard is made from rosewood with a 10" radius and features 22 jumbo frets and birds inlays, adding a unique aesthetic appeal.
The neck and body of the PRS Santana Retro are set, giving it a more traditional tone, while the hardware features a PRS patented Gen III tremolo and PRS Phase III locking tuners, ensuring the guitar stays in tune and providing a smooth playing experience. The guitar is equipped with Santana humbuckers which are designed to reproduce the tone of the legendary guitarist's sound - they're vintage flavoured with a clear, smooth tone.
