Design and Inspiration
The A-Type draws its aesthetic inspiration from the classic lines of vintage cars, hot rods, and surfboard design, reflecting Powers' upbringing in the vibrant cultural environment of San Diego's North County. This guitar showcases an asymmetrical shape that maintains visual balance, ensuring it looks stunning from every angle. The fully enclosed, slim hollowbody design is not just a visual treat but also a feat of engineering aimed at maximising resonance and minimising feedback.
Playability and Comfort
A key feature of the A-Type is its impeccable feel. Designed to be lightweight and perfectly balanced, the guitar is easy to handle whether you're sitting or standing. The hollow body allows for a comfortable grip, while the contoured armrest and radiused body edges enhance playing comfort. The neck, described as a "just right" blend of not too big and not too slim, flows smoothly into a unique fretboard geometry. The split radius fretboard, asymmetrical from the bass side to the treble side, allows for maximum playability and effortless, choke-free string bending.
Superior Sound
This specific model of the A-Type features PF42 (partial Faraday) pickups, designed to produce a firm, bright sound. These pickups blend modern magnetic structure with vintage inspiration, allowing the strings to vibrate more naturally and delivering both fidelity and colourful warmth. The guitar's trussed hollowbody, with internal soundposts and a braced solid-wood top, maximises resonance and lyrical sustain while suppressing feedback.
Hardware and Features
Equipped with the innovative CamTail bridge system, the Powers Electric A-Type ensures superior tuning stability during pitch changes. This camshaft tailpiece compensates for string tension and gauge, keeping the strings in tune and featuring a zero-point return mechanism that allows players to bend notes without pitch droop. The system is easily adjustable for a full floating vibrato, adding to the guitar's versatility. The saddle material has been upgraded to high-density brass, enhancing sustain and tonal clarity.
In a nod to classic styling, the guitar is finished in a solid colour, instead of the select maple option. The Firestripe pickguard adds a striking visual contrast, giving the guitar a unique, vintage-inspired look. Each component, aside from the tuners and strings, is meticulously crafted in-house, emphasising the exclusivity and craftsmanship of the Powers Electric A-Type.
