Cory Wong, groove-master and habitual “pocket” dweller, is a player it’s impossible to ignore. From his stellar contributions in Vulfpeck to his Youtube variety show Cory and the Wongnotes, his undeniable talent is inescapable!
Bringing funk and rhythm to the fore, a key component of Cory’s vibe is his super dynamic use of compression. And guess what……he’s just announced a BRAND NEW signature Compressor in collaboration with Wampler!
The rather smartly titled, Wampler Cory Wong Compressor, is based around Cory’s long-time favourite comp pedal, the Wampler EGO. Delivering the light touch needed to maximise his killer tone, it was the natural starting point. From here Cory added his own special flavours to create one of the most unique pedals we’ve seen this year!
Cory’s vision included the addition of an XLR out, perfect for those situations when going direct to your amp isn’t on the cards, you can go direct into a PA, audio interface or mixing desk and get those signature bright, clean tones in front of the mix.
The super versatile boost function is another of Cory’s personal touches. Allowing the option of either a flat volume boost or a rich, saturated boost that really emphasises the mid-range frequencies, Wampler have somehow managed to squeeze an extra footswitch into a regular, compact pedal housing. It’s stage friendly and surprisingly not over-crowded, despite 2 footswitches and 6 control knobs!
On the compressor side you have complete control over volume, sustain and attack, pretty standard compressor controls, it does however feature Brian Wamplers signature Tone control which can be dialled in for that little bit of extra sparkle! On the boost side, a rotary control adjusts the amount of boost, plus a profile switch to change between flat and saturated boosts.
Plug it in and immediately you’ll feel the spirit of Cory Wong inhabit your playing, you’ll become a lean, mean groove machine, all syncopation, 7th chords and 16th note grooves!
