New Release | PRS SE Silver Sky MAPLE!
Cast your mind back to 2018, long before the bleak abyss of 2020, in a time before face masks, national curfews and panic, back when the most controversial topic was the newly released PRS John Mayer Silver Sky, simpler times, right?
Well, it’s been 5 years now and the Silver Sky just keeps going from strength to strength, finding its own unique place in the market and converting players from all genres. And while the full fat USA Core Line model is still the ultimate example of the Silver Sky, last year's SE Silver Sky offered a more affordable, but no less significant, option for players.
So it will come as no surprise that for 2023 the PRS SE Silver Sky gets a cheeky little update! I think we all knew it was coming at some point, but here it is, officially, the MAPLE neck variation of the SE.
Available in 3 knockout finishes, Overland Gray, Nylon Blue and Summit Purple, the Maple neck version offers a fresh new flavour to the Silver Sky recipe. Maple offers a notoriously snappy response and has a completely different tonal character to Rosewood. It’s brighter and maybe a touch less refined, so to pair this with all the other features of the SE, well, it’s a winner!
Not that you’re going to have forgotten, but let me refresh your mind to the finer details of the SE Silver Sky. Impeccably designed, flawlessly crafted and full to the brim with mojo, the SE Silver Sky punches well above its modest price point. Featuring a Poplar body, it delivers both a traditional and supremely comfortable playing experience. It’s well balanced and features the signature PRS lower horn scoop, allowing for great access up the neck.
The 22 fret bolt-on neck has a 25.5” scale length, a slightly flatter 8.5” radius and a slimmer 41mm nut width. The classic PRS headstock has been reversed on the Silver Sky to give some extra clearance on the underside of the nut, offering great tuning stability and an exclusive look to this signature model.
The trio of single coils have been designed to provide the same vintage and glassy tone associated with late ‘60s single coil guitars. The 635JM “S” set is smooth sounding and incredibly touch sensitive. These precision engineered single coils are everything you would expect a tone junkie like Mayer to dig.
