New Release | PRS Myles Kennedy Signature & NF 53!
PRS have an artist roster of enviable quality, top players and performers who never fail to inspire. And their latest signature artist is something pretty special, a long-time PRS player, he now joins the ranks alongside his existing PRS signature artist bandmate, Mark Tremonti. We are of course talking about the incredible Myles Kennedy, frontman for Alter Bridge and Slash and the Conspirators, Kennedy is a potent vocalist and a mean player!
First and foremost a rock player, Myles Kennedy draws influence from blues and jazz to bring a really unique flavour to Alter Bridge, and his new PRS Myles Kennedy really captures the magic of his playing and his influences.
Based around the brand new PRS NF 53, the first thing you notice is the glorious single cut body shape and flowing body contours. Traditional but somehow totally fresh, it’s comfortable, beautifully balanced and weighted to perfection. Swamp Ash has long been a favourite PRS timber and it’s been utilised to devastating effect here. The colour options are vibrant yet classic too, with Antique White, Black, Hunters Green, Tri-Colour Sunburst and Vintage Natural.
My personal favourite feature of any PRS guitar is always the neck, there’s some kind of dark art that only Paul Reed Smith knows how to practise and as you’d expect, the neck here is perfection. Crafted from Maple and featuring a custom Myles Kennedy profile, it also boasts a 10” radius, 22 frets and the iconic PRS Bird inlays. Great underhand and super robust, it’s the ideal platform for huge riffs and precision picking.
If you’re familiar with some of the other models in the PRS arsenal, you’ll know that Paul likes to push the dial when it comes to electronics. Whether it’s the 509, Modern Eagle or Special Semi-Hollow, there’s always a trick up his sleeve, and the Myles Kennedy Signature is no different. Loaded with MK Custom Narrowfield pickups, you get a 5-way switch and push/pull tone pot with a difference. The push/pull actually acts as a preset tone roll off for the treble pickups, bringing the higher frequencies down to darken the tone, definitely not your standard coil split here!

P1: (Switch down) Treble Humbucker
P2: Treble Humbucker & Bass Coil Split
P3: Treble & Bass Humbuckers
P4: Treble & Bass Coil Split
P5: (Switch Up) Bass Humbucker
You’ll not be short of tonal options here, this is a swiss army knife of tone!
Complete with a premium PRS gigbag and strung with PRS 10-46 strings, this beauty is ready to rock!
But wait!!! If that’s not quite to your liking, how about the new PRS NF 53, the platform from which the Myles Kennedy Signature was born? How is it different you ask, well let me highlight the key points!
The neck shape is the first alteration, the NF 53 features a killer Pattern 53 profile, more like a traditional Pattern profile than the MK it’s no less comfortable and balanced.
The colour options include White Doghair, Black Doghair, Blue Matteo and McCarty Tobacco Sunburst, more inline with the classic PRS colours and traditional offerings that vintage inspired instruments favour.
The electronics are where you’ll find the biggest variation though. Rather than the comprehensive options of the MK, the NF 53 features Narrowfield DD (Deep Dish) pickups with a 3-way switch, utilised in the normal way. The Narrowfield DD pickups are made with taller bobbins to fit more winds in and extra metal pieces in between the magnets for a more focused and powerful tone.
