These fair shores have delivered more than their fair share of iconic guitar brands over the years, I’m talking Marshall, Hiwatt, Vox and today’s focus, the great guys at the undeniably rad, Orange Amplifiers.
Since hitting the world stage back in ‘68, Orange have gone on to sculpt the most delicious and monumental tone for players as illustrious and versatile as Jimmy Page, Peter Green, Stevie Wonder and has more recently found a tasty niche in the metal genre, fuelling guys like Brent Hinds, Jim Root and Head from Korn.
We were expecting a pretty quiet year from Orange, their catalogue is already stacked with incredible gear, but here we are in July absolutely delighted to announce the release of the BRAND NEW Orange OR30.
You’ve all heard of the other iconic Orange amps, and the OR30 more than fits the profile, but there’s a lot of really cool and fresh features that separate the OR30 from the rest. So let’s take a little dive into the details!
Crafted right here in the UK, the OR30 features an Orange first, the 3-way ‘Bright’ switch. The ultimate tonal multitool, this switch takes your tone and offers an unparalleled amount of flexibility. With the switch in the neutral centre position, the amp is a perfect pedal platform, allowing the muscularity of your distortion and overdrive effects to augment the tone of the amp. Flick it leftwards for a fine treble boost; switch to the right and a broader treble will be engaged to sharpen your tone, resembling the best classic rock amps of yesteryear.
There’s no prizes for guessing the power rating of the OR30, of course it’s 30 watts, but don’t let that lull you into a false sense of security, this amp is LOUD! In fact, Orange claims that this little ripper hits the exact same sound pressure readings as a 100 watt amp when in testing at the Orange test room, that’s a serious stat!
But power means nothing if you don’t compliment it with delicious tone, and man, what a sound Orange have cultivated! The gain goes from glassy clean right through to gnarly saturation, and with a tube rectifier you get a furious attack but it’s super easy to tame and refine. The control layout is real player focused and features a cross-line presence control that has been designed to work at any volume, try rolling off the treble and add presence and you’ve got 2 completely different sounds.
Another super cool feature is the secondary volume control, which can be toggled via the footswitch for even great freedom and flexibility. Go from subtle rhythm tones to screaming lead in the stomp of a button, this is one versatile amp!
