New Release | Music Man Tosin Abasi Kaizen (+Bad Cat!)
Every once in a while, you’ll come across a musician that defies just about everything you thought that you knew about your instrument. Somebody who has found a way to bring a new flavour and a unique take on music that has allowed them to cut through the crowd.
These guys are few and far between, and it’s often a once in a lifetime thing to be living through and experiencing their prime. These players are the musical equivalent of Roger Federer, Lionel Messi or Tiger Woods, artists who push the boundary beyond what you thought possible.
There is one guy who really captured our imagination when he burst on to the scene though, one guy who for over 10 years has been blowing our minds with his impeccable phrasing and innovative technique, you’ve probably guessed already (there’s a massive clue in the name of the blog!), but we are of course talking about Tosin Abasi, mastermind behind prog pioneers, Animals As Leaders.
Tosin has played a variety of really unique guitars over the years, with each needing to fulfil a very specific and demanding set of requirements. From his first signature Ibanez model, to his own range of Abasi Concept guitars, Tosin’s progressive, heavily rhythmical style isn’t suited to your standard off the shelf Fender or Gibson!
Recently, Tosin has been working with the guys at Music Man to develop a signature model capable of standing up to the demanding nature of his playing, and boy did they succeed! A major talking at NAMM, the Music Man Kaizen is a serious guitar for a serious player! Loaded with player focused features, the Kaizen is quite unlike anything that Music Man has delivered before.

Predictably, Tosin has tended to favour the use of digital tools such as the AxeFX to deliver his crushing yet clinical tone on stage every night, this tech is widely considered the pinnacle of progressive tone and it’s unusual to see amps on stage. But recently Tosin has fallen for the allure of the incredible Bad Cat Lynx, one of the very finest high-gain amps from the heart of California’s boutique sweet spot!
