There are very few who rival the kind of wizardry that Landau consistently delivers, putting a spell over his audience every single time, he is a master and we are his adoring subjects!
Not only is he an established band leader and producer but he is one of the most highly respected and in-demand session players around. His list of playing credits is enviable, lending his talents to tracks by James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd and even B.B. King. For years we’ve seen Landau hitting the stage with an array of Strat based delights, and we’ve even had the ML Hot Rod Deville amp, and this latest offering from the team at Fender might be the coolest one yet!
The Fender Stories Collection Michael Landau Coma Stratocaster is a tribute to the iconic “Coma” guitar that has been Landau’s workhorse and muse since he was 16 years old! A ‘59 Strat, Landau found Coma in an LA guitar store, already heavily customised; it lent itself perfectly to the “chop and change” nature of top-tier session work.
This BRAND NEW version is a representation of Coma as it exists now, wearing its scars with pride and displaying a lifetime of customisation and history.
So let’s check it out! The ‘59 Strat alder body has been finished in Coma Red Satin nitrocellulose lacquer, super faded and featuring a formerly occupied Floyd Rose route, there’s no mistaking who this guitar belongs to! Originally this guitar was Dakota Red and had been partially stripped by a previous owner, what you see now is a real unique hybrid of colours!
The neck features a custom “C” neck profile, substantial but not unwieldy, it’s a really nice profile. A 7.25” radius Rosewood fingerboard offers that classic ‘50s Stratocaster vibe and gives you a familiar feel to an otherwise uncharted Strat platform.
Tone is the name of the game and we’re blessed with a truly game winning selection of pickups here! A pair of custom ML Ultra Noiseless Strat single coils join forces with the super punchy custom ML CuNiFe Wide-Range humbucker that sits at the bridge. Covering so much ground, this is a session player's dream, I mean it actually is, the physical embodiment of a session player's dream!
Complete with a custom Coma embroidered vintage style hardshell case, Coma pick tin, custom strap and Coma sticker set, this is a real piece of guitar history!
