We all know the drill by now, right? Another month, another Kirk Hammett signature line! Since joining forces with Gibson, Metallica’s swift-fingered, speed merchant has been inundated with guitars with his name attached, both from Gibson and long term partners, ESP.
So here we are, in late 2023 and Gibson have just announced the release of another, and this one is under the Epiphone umbrella, introducing the Epiphone Kirk Hammett 1979 Flying V!
If you’re a Metallica fan you’ve almost certainly witnessed the infernal majesty of this V before, it was, after all, the very guitar that kick started Kirk’s love of Gibson. Purchased to fill a tonal void in his rig, and inspired by the iconic Flying V players Kirk admired, this 1979 model has a rich and storied past! You might remember the Gibson Custom version that was released earlier in the year, this is a reimagining of that very guitar!
Kill ‘Em All, Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All, and The Black Album, this Flying V has been there, done that and forever left its mark on rock music history! A staple of Kirk’s rig over this period, the V is still in rotation to this day.
It’s only right that a guitar as iconic and influential as this is honoured in the right way, and this Epiphone recreation definitely does that! With a Mahogany body, finished in Ebony or Purple Metallic, this guitar delivers monster aesthetics which more than match its illustrious counterpart.
The 1-piece Mahogany neck features a rounded-C profile, 22 frets, mother of pearl dot inlays and an Indian Laurel fingerboard. It’s poised and balanced, ready to riff hard and bring those searing KH solos to the front of any mix!
The Gibson USA T-Type humbuckers have an incredible dynamic range and response.
