The Martin Custom Shop 000-28 1937 Madagascar Rosewood is a premium, limited-edition acoustic guitar designed for players who appreciate historical accuracy, tonal richness, and fine craftsmanship. Built using high-grade Madagascar rosewood for the back and sides and an Adirondack spruce top, this guitar delivers a highly responsive, articulate sound with excellent dynamic range. These tonewoods are carefully selected for their tonal clarity and projection, offering a refined acoustic voice suitable for both fingerstyle and flatpicking.
This model features Martin's Authentic 1937 bracing pattern with forward-shifted scalloped Adirondack braces, secured using traditional hide glue construction. These specifications closely replicate the structure of pre-war Martins, resulting in a lightweight yet resonant build. The use of a dovetail neck joint further enhances sustain and tonal transfer between the neck and body. An adjustable truss rod has been included to allow for easier long-term maintenance without compromising the guitar's vintage-inspired design.
The neck is crafted from genuine mahogany and shaped in a modified V profile with a 1930s-style heel, providing a comfortable grip for a wide range of hand sizes. The 24.9" scale length, 1 3/4" nut width, and 2 1/4" width at the 12th fret offer a balanced playing feel ideal for both chordal and melodic work. An ebony fingerboard with abalone Diamond & Square Long inlays completes the playing surface, ensuring both smooth playability and classic visual appeal.
Additional premium features include an ebony bridge with a 16" radius bone saddle, bone bridge pins, and aged Waverly nickel open-back tuners that offer precise tuning stability while contributing to the guitar's vintage aesthetic. The vintage gloss finish, aged by Martin's Stage 1 ageing process, provides the look of a well-maintained vintage instrument without the wear or fragility of an actual antique. Each guitar comes with a hardshell case for protection and storage.
Only 50 of these guitars have been produced, making this a rare opportunity for collectors and players alike to own a meticulously crafted instrument that blends heritage design with modern reliability.
