The DiMarzio PAF 7 pickups have become increasingly popular with the rise of 7-string guitars, meeting the demand for a lower-output pickup that captures the clean and classic humbucking tones reminiscent of the late 50s. Unlike a mere modification to DiMarzio's 6-string design, the PAF 7 is purpose-built for 7-string guitars. Drawing on technology from the Virtual Vintage pickup series, it delivers a sound that is both clean and open on the lower notes, while offering warmth and roundness on the highs.
The PAF 7 takes inspiration from the 1950s humbuckers that utilised Alnico 2, 3, or 5 magnets. In a departure from tradition, the PAF 7 employs a ceramic magnet, allowing for the same low magnet-pull as Alnico 2 or 3, combined with the power of Alnico 5. This unique approach keeps the low strings bright and clean, while the incorporation of Virtual Vintage technology within the coils ensures warm high notes and a playing feel reminiscent of the 50s humbuckers.
