Known as the King of the Flat Tops, the Gibson SJ 200 is a true household name for guitar players around the world. Since its debut in 1937, the SJ 200 has become a favourite with artists as varied as Elvis, Pete Townshend, and Bob Dylan. With its distinctive look and beautifully balanced tone, it is a guitar that has clearly stood the test of time. The Gibson SJ 200 60s model recreates the guitar as it appeared during the 1960s, so if that is your favourite era of this classic design, you are going to love these.
This guitar features the classic SJ 200 body shape that made the model famous. Its large body delivers a powerful, resonant sound, making it a great choice for both studio use and live performance. In the 1960s, the SJ 200 was built with a solid Sitka spruce top and a figured maple body. This 60s inspired model uses 3A grade figured maple, which looks beautiful and adds to its vintage character. It also features a checkerboard marquetry strip running down the centre of the back. The nitrocellulose finish is applied very thinly, allowing the wood to resonate more freely compared to thicker finish types.
The 2-piece Maple neck features a Walnut stringer, and features a comfortable Round neck profile. This profile is super comfortable and feels great in your hands, it’s really easy to navigate. The Rosewood fingerboard is dark in colour and features a 25.5” scale length, 20 frets, Mother of Pearl Graduated Crown inlays, and a narrower 1.687” nut width as found on original 60s SJ-200s.
The SJ 200 60s Original comes equipped with gold Grover Rotomatic tuners for reliable tuning stability, along with a bone nut and TUSQ bridge pins. It is also fully stage and studio ready thanks to an internal L.R. Baggs VTC under saddle pickup and preamp system, with discreet volume and tone controls mounted inside the soundhole.
