The Gibson LG-2 first appeared in 1942 during the celebrated “Banner” era and quickly earned a reputation as one of Gibson’s finest small-bodied acoustic guitars, loved for its impressive projection and warm, balanced tone. Early models featured mahogany back and sides with red spruce tops, although wartime shortages often led to creative use of materials, including maple bodies and, on occasion, all-mahogany builds.
Today, Gibson proudly reintroduces the LG-2 All-Mahogany Faded, a modern take on those vintage all-mahogany designs that captures the charm and character of the originals while offering the reliability of a contemporary instrument.
This Gibson LG-2 is constructed using solid Mahogany back and sides, alongside a solid Mahogany top, which is reinforced with traditional scalloped x-bracing. This combination of tonewoods creates a warm, woody tone with a punchy mid range. The top features simple black binding on the top and the back, which really compliments the simple aesthetics of this model. The smaller body of the LG-2 All-Mahogany Faded makes it more comfortable to hold and play than larger-bodied acoustic guitars. If you’re looking for a simple acoustic for blues, folk, or americana, then this is worth checking out.
The Mahogany neck features a comfortable Rounded profile and is joined to the body with a compound dovetail neck joint for enhanced stability and resonance. It is topped with an unbound Rosewood fretboard fitted with 20 standard frets, a 24.75” scale length, a 1.725” nut width, and simple yet elegant mother-of-pearl dot inlays.
The LG-2 All-Mahogany Faded features a sloped rectangular rosewood bridge with a closed-slot design and a bone saddle for optimal tone and sustain. The bridge pins are made from TUSQ, ensuring consistent performance and clarity. Grover strap tuners with white buttons provide reliable tuning stability, while the teardrop pickguard completes the look with a touch of vintage character.
Designed with modern musicians and recording artists in mind, the LG-2 All-Mahogany Faded comes equipped with an L.R. Baggs VTC under-saddle transducer and built-in preamp. The system includes discreet soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls that are easy to access while remaining almost invisible to the audience. With high-quality electronics that deliver natural, dynamic sound, this guitar is ready for both stage and studio straight out of the included Gibson hardshell case, all while preserving its timeless, vintage-inspired character.
