A very special Limited Edition guitar to mark a very special occasion. 100 years of Gibson Flat-Tops!
Even for one of the most prestigious guitar brands in history, 100 years of success is a long time. Gibson's range of Flat-Tops have stood the test of time with aplomb, inspiring countless guitar legends on their way and continuing to do so. As part of this celebration, this model is one of a commemorative run of 5 iconic acoustic models, each limited to just 100 guitars. Handmade in Bozeman, Montana, this J-45 is something truly magnificent - honouring what makes the original model so legendary, whilst adding enough flare and charm to make it a rare stand-out piece for collectors and players alike.
This Anniversary addition takes the Mahogany back and sides that would traditionally be seen on a J-45 but pairs it with a Bear Claw Sitka Spruce top. This simple change retains the unmistakeable Hummingbird tone but gives it a unique visual perspective, as each piece of Bear Claw has its own stand-out grain pattern. To accentuate this even further, the top is framed beautifully with multi-ply binding which is highlighted with Abalone, as well as an Abalone soundhole rosette. This classy upgrade is taken to the max with the Cremona Burst gloss nitrocellulose finish, which is reminiscent of a golden-hued Sunburst, it really brings out the beauty of the grain and almost has a shimmering quality to it - it is the perfect finish for this celebratory model.
The Mahogany neck with Gibson's SlimTaper neck shape is topped with a bound Rosewood fretboard, which carries 20 frets and classic Mother of Pearl dot inlays. A singly-ply bound headstock is adorned with a vintage Mother of Pearl 'The Gibson' logo, which is another tasteful nod to its historical significance. Gold-plated Grover tuners not only keep the tuning stable but match the colour of the Cremona Burst superbly.
The tortoiseshell teardrop pickguard keeps the classic J-45 touch while a Rosewood belly-up bridge features pyramid carvings on the wings which hold a Bone saddle and TUSQ bridge pins. These are matched with a Bone nut at the other end which is not only a nod to the early flat-top designs but retain optimum stability as well as providing supreme, vintage Gibson tone.
Discreetly installed with an LR Baggs VTC pickup system, this includes a piezo under saddle element and active preamp, easily adjustable to your tastes via the controls tucked away in the soundhole. It's a stage-ready guitar which is perfect for the modern player, but retains its majestic vintage-inspired sound and aesthetics.
The J-45 is Gibson's best selling acoustic guitar of all time. A rich and balanced tone, suited for a multitude of different styles and genres - a warm low end with big, articulate projection. It's been The Workhorse acoustic guitar model since its inception in 1942, and shows no signs of slowing down. This model retains everything that makes this slope-shouldered model so iconic, but adds those classy upgrades for that special touch of prestige.
