Gary Clark Jr. has teamed up with Gibson Custom to create a very special signature ES 355 inspired by one of his biggest influences, B.B. King. A four time Grammy winner, Gary has carved out a unique place in modern music, blending blues, soul, and rock and roll into a sound that is unmistakably his own. After putting the original prototype through its paces on stage, this guitar has quickly become his go to instrument for both live performance and studio work.
This Gary Clark Jr. signature ES 355 takes its inspiration from the ES 355 he personally saw B.B. King playing live on stage, an instrument that left a lasting impression on him. While this guitar is very much a tribute to B.B. King, it also features a unique specification shaped around Gary Clark Jr’s own playing style. It features a 3-ply ES 355 body made from figured maple, poplar, and maple. The figured maple outer layer looks fantastic, with the Cobra Burst nitrocellulose lacquer bringing out the depth of the grain beautifully. The nitro finish is applied very thinly, allowing the body to resonate more freely compared to thicker finish types.
The mahogany neck has been carved to a 50s rounded medium C shape, which feels great in your hands and enables you to navigate the playing surface with ease. The ebony fingerboard is bound and features 22 historic medium jumbo frets, a 24.75” scale length, 42.85 mm nut width, and mother-of-pearl block inlays.
This guitar is loaded with a pair of unpotted Custombucker pickups with Alnico 3 magnets, which deliver the warm, touch-sensitive tone Gary Clark Jr. is known for. They’re wired with high-quality CTS pots, paper-in-oil capacitors and a controlled with a traditional toggle switch. For extra versatility, you also have a Varitone circuit, which gives you access to even more tonal options. This guitar is also loaded with high-quality hardware, like Grover rotomatic tuners, and a ABR-1 no wire bridge and Bigsby B7 tailpiece.
Each instrument ships in a Gibson Custom hardshell case with Gary Clark Jr. graphics, featuring a brown exterior and black plush interior. This special run is limited to just 100 guitars, all of which are handcrafted by the Gibson Custom Shop team in Nashville, Tennessee. Don’t miss out!
