The Fryette Pittbull Ultra-Lead II marks the return of one of the most respected high-gain amplifiers ever built, reimagined from the ground up for a new generation of players. From its debut in 1995 until its discontinuation in 2017, the original Pittbull Ultra-Lead stood as the flagship of the Fryette line, earning a reputation for precision, authority and unmatched tonal flexibility. Demand for its return never faded, and after an uncompromising three-year development cycle, the Ultra-Lead II arrives as a fully modern touring and recording powerhouse.
Rather than simply recreating the original, Fryette prioritised its most beloved features and then expanded the platform with forward-thinking engineering. The Ultra-Lead II introduces a compact, lightweight form factor, a flexible three-channel topology, a powerful graphic EQ and a super dynamic 120 watt power amplifier designed for maximum clarity, punch and responsiveness.
A major innovation is the integration of the smoother harmonic personality of the Pittbull Hundred CLX, the Ultra-Lead's former sister model. This is achieved through a Patent Pending power valve blending technology that extracts peak performance from mixed pairs of EL34 and 6550 power valves. The result is a unique tonal palette that combines the aggression and articulation of the Ultra-Lead with the harmonic richness and musicality of the CLX.
The Ultra-Lead II also debuts an all-new switching and signal processing platform. This system provides a vast range of sonic options through a slick, intuitive interface that can be controlled via the onboard LCD display or operated remotely through a custom graphical user interface. It is designed to be the centrepiece of a modern rig, offering deep control without sacrificing immediacy or feel.
As Steve Fryette explains: "Many amp manufacturers view legacy product reboots in the most literal way possible, offering as accurate a reproduction as possible, given modern regulatory limitations. In our view, that approach is just uninspired and assumes that a great valve amplifier can't be truly innovative. We believe that the Pittbull Ultra-Lead origin story was about moving beyond, and that is just as true today as it was in 1995."
