Jose Arredondo's groundbreaking amplifier modifications helped define the sound of high-gain rock. The modifications he made to British-style amplifiers gave them greater sustain, richer harmonic content, and a much tighter low end. His work quickly became the stuff of legend and has greatly inspired Dave Friedman and the amplifiers produced under the Friedman brand. The Friedman Jose-20 brings those iconic hot-rodded tones to the masses in a player-friendly 20-watt package, making it easy to get those powerful tones at home, in the studio, or at smaller gigs.
The Jose-20 is hand built in Los Angeles using premium components and custom-made transformers. If you've ever owned or played a Friedman amplifier, you'll know just how well built these amplifiers are.
One of the most exciting features of this amplifier is the internally bridged Volume I & Volume II controls. Together, they blend a bright tone with loads of top-end clarity with a warmer, fuller tone. With both blended together, you instantly get access to that modded British tone we all know and love. The amp also features some unique switches on the front panel, each of which drastically alters the overall tone and feel of the amplifier. The "Plexi/Gain" switch introduces an additional gain stage, giving you access to the aggressive saturation that Jose Arredondo's amps are known for. The "Fat" switch adds depth and really increases the amp's low end, while the three-position "Gain Style" switch allows for further tweaking of the amp's tone and feel. It repositions the master volume within the circuit while also introducing diode clipping for additional grit and sustain. Rather than simply adding drastic amounts of gain with each adjustment, each position reshapes the amp's response and feel. With all of these onboard controls, this amp can deliver everything from chimey Plexi-style cleans right through to high-gain modded tones.
This combo amp features a Celestion G12M-65 Creamback speaker. This speaker was personally selected by Dave Friedman due to its warm midrange, smooth top end, and dynamic response.
