The Fender American Vintage II 1966 Jazz Bass recreates one of the most distinctive and stylish eras in J Bass history, built with period accurate tonewoods, hardware and electronics. Originally introduced as a more refined, high end alternative to the Precision Bass, the Jazz Bass featured a slimmer nut width, offset body contours and a faster, more effortless feel. By 1966, the model had evolved with bold new cosmetic appointments and refined playability.
This recreation features a comfortable 1966 U shape hard rock maple neck paired with a 7.25 inch radius bound round lam rosewood fingerboard and vintage tall frets. Classic 1966 details include white neck binding, pearl dot inlays, a matching painted headstock and a 4 ply tortoiseshell pickguard. The Pure Vintage 66 Jazz Bass pickups deliver the articulate growl, punch and clarity associated with mid 60s J Basses, constructed with period correct materials such as cloth covered wire, fibre bobbins and alnico magnets.
Hardware is authentically reproduced, including a 4 saddle bridge with threaded saddles, vintage style lollipop tuners and a gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish that allows the alder body to resonate naturally. Every detail is crafted to match the look, sound and feel of the original instruments, with much of the hardware still produced on original 50s and 60s Fender factory machines.
The American Vintage II series represents Fender electrics in their purest form, built for players who appreciate vintage tone, feel and craftsmanship down to the last screw.
