The Firebird returns as part of the Epiphone Inspired by Gibson collection, bringing one of Gibson’s most iconic and legendary designs to a much more accessible price point. The Firebird was originally released back in 1963 and quickly achieved its legendary status among players. This Epiphone Inspired by Gibson version features the reverse body and headstock design which appeared on the Firebird when it originally released.
This Firebird features a traditional neck-through-body design, with a pair of mahogany wings forming the reverse body around a 9-ply mahogany and walnut neck that extends right into the body of the guitar. This construction method makes the Firebird one of the most unique and intricate designs in the Gibson family, so seeing it recreated at this price point is pretty special.
The neck as mentioned before is crafted from 9-Ply Mahogany and Walnut, which gives this neck great stability and resistance to humidity and temperature changes. Due to the neck-through-body design, the tuners, pickups, bridge, and tailpiece are all mounted on the same pieces of wood, providing exceptional resonance. The SlimTaper neck shape is super comfortable and is similar to the neck shape you would find on an original Firebird from this period. The Rosewood fingerboard features a 24.75” scale length, 43mm nut width, 22 frets, and pearloid trapezoid inlays.
This Firebird is includes a pair of ProBucker FB720 Firebird pickups, which feature Alnico II magnets and are voiced to match the character of the original 1960s Gibson Firebird pickups. Wired through high-quality CTS® potentiometers, they deliver the bright, clear and hum-free tone the Firebird is famous for. Although similar in size to mini humbuckers, true Firebird pickups use a completely different construction. Instead of traditional pole pieces and a single bar magnet beneath the coils, they feature twin blade magnets housed inside the coils along with a steel reflector plate, producing a distinctive sound that sets them apart from any other humbucking design.
On this Firebird you also have a set of Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners, and a LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge and Stop Bar tailpiece. Premim Gigbag included.
