A new, more pedalboard friendly sized version of the widely successful Life pedal. EarthQuaker Devices and Sunn O))) have joined forces once again to bring forth HalfLife. This version contains the same impressive distortion circuit jammed packed full of the HalfLife Octave, Distortion and Boost in a more affordable offering.
The only difference to the circuitry from the full size version is a slight alteration in the clipping section. The HalfLife includes two extra clipping options so it is now more adaptable to various amp rigs. The first position (OpAmp) is no diodes which enables for a full force of Op Amp power with the second section (Asymm) optimising two silicon diodes and an LED. This produces a tad more compression as well as a rounder crunch-like valve amp tone. Finally, the third position (Symm) is the standard double silicon diode design which produces the superb tone you're familiar with.
The HalfLife combines an Octave Up and Booster in one box - an analog full-wave rectifier circuit. When you utilise the Octave control, you can blend in your desired amount in order to cut through the mix (there is also the option here to combine with an expression pedal to enable you to swell to your hearts desire!)
This feature can be used subtly with your lead lines at the high end of the fretboard to add a bit of extra spice to your playing, but if you want to engage to fully prepare yourself for ultimate riff warfare, as this thing gets gnarly!
When you delve into the "Magnatude" control, this is a simple MOSFET booster which is designed to really get your preamp valves cooking! It's a clean boost designed not to colour your tone but just to provide as much output as you need.
The octave distortion and boost can be used independent of each other with their own footswitches.
Prepare yourself, this pedal may be smaller than its predecessor but it is mighty powerful!
